I've experienced a lot of things in my life and I must say that gator hunting on Lake Okeechobee in FL is one of the most exciting I've done. The weather was beautiful and as we traveled in the boat to get to our spot to begin hunting after dark, the flocks of cattle egrets, a few great blue heron, an ahninga were flying back to their rookeries. Watching this as the sun was setting was just awesome! The people I was with were so nice and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. While trying to get a gator, we didn't say a word and I really got in tune with the quiet on the water except for an occasional honk of a great blue heron, the soulful hoot of an owl, the plopping sound of a fish splashing and gators moving from shore into the water. At some of the places we visited, the shoreline was lined with hundreds of large white flowers. Gator hunting makes for a long night and you can't just put the bait in the water and get the big one. You have to work at it long and hard. I was tired the next day, but it was the best kind of tired ever! I can hardly wait until next time...
