Superman's new headquarters is in Metropolis, Massac Co., IL along the banks of the Ohio River. On January 21, 1972, DC Comics designated Metropolis, IL as the "Hometown of Superman". On June 9, 1972, the IL State Legistlature passed Resolution 572 designating Metropolis the "Hometown of Superman". DC Comics Superman character was based in the fictional city of Metropolis. There is a giant statue of Superman in front of the Courthouse. An annual Superman Celebration takes place in Metropolis in June with b-b-q cook-offs, arts and crafts shows, live entertainment plus lots more. The local newspaper is called "The Metropolis Planet".
